In an effort to mobilize female voters in support of Hillary Clinton, two independent groups that are allied with the Democratic White House contender are working to raise $20 million to reach women in battleground states through advertising and other voter outreach, The Washington Post reports.

The lead super PAC backing Clinton, Priorities USA Action, is teaming up with Emily's List to increase turnout among female voters.

According to the Post, while the 2016 presidential race is the first in which the number of millennials eligible to vote matches the number of eligible voters from the baby boomer generation, the two groups are honing in on younger voters by sending a message that the Republican presidential candidates would block access to healthcare for women and oppose fair pay.

"Women voters are the key to winning the 2016 elections, for Hillary Clinton and for Democrats up and down the ballot," Stephanie Schriock, president of Emily’s List, said in a statement. "We are thrilled to be joining forces with Priorities to make sure every woman in this country understands that with a Republican in the White House, our rights, freedoms and opportunities will be on the chopping block."

Although the collaboration between Priorities and Emily's List is the first, officials say that the super PAC plans to roll out partnerships with other outside groups.
