Hillary Clinton on Wednesday praised an 11-year-old Maryland girl who took a knee during the Pledge of Allegiance, telling the child to "keep up the good work."

Clinton was responding to a video of Mariana Taylor, a Maryland sixth-grader who got down on one knee during the pledge earlier this year, according to Fox News.

“It takes courage to exercise your right to protest injustice, especially when you’re 11!” Clinton posted on Twitter. “Keep up the good work Mariana.”

The Washington Post in May reported that Taylor had protested during the pledge after being inspired by one-time NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. It was Kaepernick who sparked protests by other professional football players over racial inequality and police brutality.

“I kind of wanted to show people that what’s going on is not okay,” Taylor said at the time.

Her parents claimed a teacher at Catonsville Middle School reprimanded her for the protest. But Baltimore County school officials said no student was punished.
