Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are tied in the important battleground state of Ohio, a new poll shows.

The Suffolk University survey released Thursday breaks down the support this way:
  • Trump: 44 percent
  • Clinton: 44 percent
  • Undecided: 11 percent

In a four-way scenario, the breakdown goes like this:
  • Clinton: 43 percent
  • Trump: 39 percent
  • Libertarian Gary Johnson: 5 percent
  • Green Party nominee Jill Stein:1 percent
  • Undecided: 12 percent
However, the polling also indicated Clinton may have hit her ceiling in the Buckeye State.

According to a survey breakdown, the 19 percent who say they could be persuaded to vote for Trump is eight times the size 2 percent voter pool that say they can be persuaded to vote for Clinton.

Ohio is often considered a "bellwether" for how the nation votes in presidential elections, the pollster notes.

On favorability, the poll finds the candidates line up this way:
  • Clinton: 41 percent favorable, 51 percent unfavorable
  • Trump: 38 percent favorable, 53 percent unfavorable

The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

"These largely negative views of the candidates come despite heavy Clinton campaign advertising in Ohio leading up to the Republican Convention and Trump's efforts to humanize his candidacy with multiple primetime speeches from family members," David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston, said in a statement.

"The Ohio-based Republican convention might have been expected to give Trump a bump among that state's voters, yet their dislike of both major-party candidates is translating into unease about the upcoming election."
