Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton says her husband would be "in charge of revitalizing the economy" if she is elected president, The Hill reports.

Speaking at a campaign stop in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, Clinton said her husband, former President Bill Clinton, "knows how to do it … especially in places like coal country and inner cities and other parts of our country that have really been left out."

Clinton has made it clear throughout the campaign that her husband would have an active role in the administration, but now she is starting to become more specific and declared that "when my husband was president, incomes rose for everybody."

The Washington Post points out that Clinton has already used the former president as an effective surrogate to campaign for her in places where she is less popular than he is, especially due to her recent comments on renewable energy that coal workers took as a threat to their livelihood.

Last week Bill Clinton spoke to Kentucky coal workers, using his ability to express empathy that has made him popular among many, The Washington Post reports.

"I was governor when the Ozark mountains where I lived had three of the four poorest counties in America. I get this," he said. "I know it’s hard when places are physically isolated. I'm not pretending,… [but] I would like to be tasked with the responsibility to take you along for the ride to America’s future."
