One of Hillary Clinton's senior advisers for her 2008 presidential campaign who was accused of sexual harassment was kept on staff at Clinton's request, The New York Times reports.

Clinton's faith adviser, American Values Network co-founder Burns Strider, "was accused of repeatedly sexually harassing a young subordinate,"according to the newspaper. Clinton's then-campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, recommended that Clinton fire Strider from her campaign. Instead, his pay was cut and he was instructed to undergo counseling, while his accuser was given a different position.

Five years later, Strider was hired to head Correct the Record, an independent group supporting Clinton's 2016 campaign for president created by David Brock, a close ally of Clinton's. He lost his job after only a few months due to "workplace issues, including allegations that he harassed a young female aide,"according to the Times.

Strider did not respond to the newspaper's request for comment. His accuser, who signed a nondisclosure agreement with the campaign like most staffers, declined to comment to the Times, as did Doyle.

Clinton's spokesperson provided a statement from the law firm that represented her in the 2008 campaign.

"To ensure a safe working environment, the campaign had a process to address complaints of misconduct or harassment. When matters arose, they were reviewed in accordance with these policies, and appropriate action was taken," read the statement. "This complaint was no exception.”
