Hillary Clinton is growing so concerned about the surging Bernie Sanders that she has added extra events in California this week ahead of the state's primary that has 475 delegate votes on offer.

Clinton, who leads the Vermont senator in the Democratic primary vote, is facing a difficult fight in the country's most populous state.

According to NBC News, the former first lady, senator, and secretary of state is beefing up her campaign schedule before next Tuesday's primary election.

The network cites two polls — a Public Policy Institute of California survey that has Clinton 2 percentage points ahead of Sanders in California, and a national NBC News/Survey Monkey poll that puts Clinton 2 points ahead of Republican Donald Trump in the general election.

Clinton was in her hometown of Chappaqua, N.Y. on Monday and marched in a Memorial Day parade with her husband, former President Bill Clinton. Sanders stayed in California to walk in a parade and attend a Golden State Warriors basketball game.

The primary race in California could go either way, although a Clinton win there is not entirely necessary. As NBC points out, President Barack Obama lost California to Clinton in the 2008 primary election.

"It's going to be closer than we thought," former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa told the Los Angeles Times. Villaraigosa is a Clinton supporter.

"Hillary's going to be the nominee, but California's the big prize, and obviously she'd like to go into the convention with a win in California."
