Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., is trailing challenger Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., in the latest poll from Fox News.
“North Dakota is an uphill fight for the Democrats,” said pollster Daron Shaw of Shaw & Company Research, who conducted the poll with Anderson Robbins Research’s Chris Anderson. “It’s a red state overall, and anti-Trump sentiment just isn’t a rallying point here like it is in some other states.”
- Heitkamp: 44 percent.
- Cramer: 48 percent.
- Other or unsure: 8 percent.
The poll also found that women prefer Heitkamp by a 7-point margin, while men favored Cramer by 15 points. President Donald Trump won the state by 36 points in 2016, and has a 54 percent job approval rating there.
The pollsters surveyed 701 North Dakota likely voters from September 8 to 11 by phone, with a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
