Americans hold a negative view of the healthcare bill passed by the House earlier this year, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows

When asked, “the healthcare bill passed by the House is…?”

  • 48 percent said “a bad idea;”
  • 16 percent said “a good idea.”

When broken down by party, less than half of Republicans support the bill, while Democrats and Independents are firmly against it.

  • 34 percent of Republicans said “good idea,” 17 percent said “bad idea;”
  • 4 percent of Democrats said “good idea,” 73 percent said “bad idea;”
  • 16 percent of independents said “good idea,” 48 percent said “bad idea.”

The poll also shows the public views the Affordable Care Act far more positively.

  •  41 percent said Obamacare is a “good idea;”
  • 38 percent said it’s a “bad idea.”

NBC notes this is the third poll of theirs, done in conjunction with The Wall Street Journal,  this year that shows Obamacare is viewed more positively than negatively. However, opinions are divided over whether Congress and President Donald Trump should end their attempt to replace the ACA.

  • 38 percent said they should continue working on repeal and replace;
  • 39 percent said they should stop their efforts;
  • 20 percent had no opinion.

This poll was conducted from June 17-20, surveying 900 adults, and has a margin of error of +/-3.3 percentage points.
