A proxy battle is being fought for a Nevada senate seat with the combatants, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and the Koch brothers, wrestling for a victory that could clinch control of the Senate, The New York Times reports.
The proxy war involves Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto and Republican Rep. Joe Heck — both vying for the soon-to-be-empty senate seat of Reid, who is retiring at the end of his current term.
And both Reid and Charles and David Koch, the billionaire conservative donors, are furiously working to get their chosen candidates in.
The Times says the Kochs have at least four separate groups working to defeat Cortez Masto, while Reid goes to bat for her. The winner could tip the Senate to either Republicans or Democrats.
"They want to make sure that they pick the next Supreme Court justices," Reid told The Times. "Heck is an absolute stooge for these right-wing nut cases."
