Karen Handel and Jon Ossoff, candidates in the highly publicized Georgia special election, have turned to local stars in the campaign's closing days, the Hill reports.

Democrats are hopeful Ossoff has a chance to pull off a victory in the red state, a House race that has turned into the most expensive in U.S. history. Tuesday's election in Georgia's 6th District between Handel, a Republican, and Ossoff is too close to call according to Politico, with Ossoff leading slightly.

Handel on Saturday hit the campaign trail with Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, who held the 6th District seat before being promoted, and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, a former Georgia governor. Vice President Mike Pence also was recently in town to help stump for Handel.

"We want lower taxes. We all want a government that respects you. You all want patient-centered health care," Price said at a rally. "If you want any one of those items, then who you want is Karen Handel for the 6th District."

Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis joined Ossoff at the NAACP Juneteenth Celebration, a festival which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Ossoff also held a cookout and a pep rally, where he thanked volunteers and staffers.

"There are folks in the 6th district, across the state, across the country, who have lost some faith that politics can deliver solutions, that politics can deliver hope," Ossoff said. "Here in this room, right now, is the team that can help restore some of that faith. This is going to be an extraordinarily close election and it's going to be a late night on Tuesday. Every vote will count."
