The National Republican Congressional Committee is attacking Democratic congressional candidate
Gwen Graham of Florida for accepting donations from what the group is calling a trashy talk show host, a cop beater, and extreme liberals.
"The folks who want Gwen Graham in Congress look like the cast of 'Celebrity Rehab' and not hardworking Florida families," said Katie Prill, NRCC spokeswoman. "If Gwen is already cozying up to shady characters now, there's no telling who she will sell out Florida's vote to if sent to Washington."
Graham's donors include House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, former talk show host and Cincinnati mayor Jerry Springer, and Florida trial lawyer John Morgan.
Morgan was arrested for battery of a police officer after he was pulled over and cited for a DUI in 1997.
According to The Hill, Graham raised almost
half a million dollars in the fourth quarter of 2013 and now has over $1 million in the bank.
Graham is running for the 2nd congressional seat in Florida currently held by two-term Republican Rep. Steve Southerland, who was first elected in 2010 as a tea party candidate. He won re-election in 2012 with 52 percent of the vote — very close to the same percentage that presidential candidate Mitt Romney won the Florida district.
The Florida Democrat is the daughter of former Gov. and Sen. Bob Graham and was tapped by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to challenge Southerland.
