Kimberly Guilfoyle — the former prosecutor, Trump campaign adviser, and television personality — was tapped as national chair of former Missouri governor Eric Greitens’ newly launched Senate campaign.
In a statement Monday, Greitens touted Guilfoyle’s role as the National Chair of the Trump Victory Finance Committee, where she raised millions for former President Donald Trump.
"Greitens is a fighter who has stood with President Trump and has a proven record of advancing conservative, America First policies," Guilfoyle said in the statement. "I am proud to join this team as the National Chair and look forward to championing Governor Greitens’ vision throughout Missouri and around the country."
Greitens, who's chasing the seat being vacated by GOP Sen. Roy Blunt, said he was "honored to have Kimberly’s support."
"We know the Democrats will come after this campaign, just like they came after President Trump," Greitens said. "With Kimberly Guilfoyle as our National Chair, I know we have a true fighter that will further elevate this campaign and help us win the support of every Missourian."
The Hill reported Greitens’ allies are casting him as the candidate most closely aligned with Trump, suggesting the former president is likely to endorse him. But the news outlet reported other unnamed people close to Trump say he’s in no hurry to weigh in on the primary.
Trump won Missouri by huge margins in 2016 and 2020. He also campaigned repeatedly in the state to help GOP Sen. Josh Hawley in his successful 2018 campaign.
Greitens was spotted at Trump International Palm Beach late last month, posing for pictures with actor Sylvester Stallone, the Missourian reported.
He was also spotted at Mar-a-Lago having lunch with Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, the New York Post reported, and jumped in to help revive a man who suffered a seizure.
He officially launched his Senate campaign last month, the Missouri Independent reported at the time.
Greitens’s main rival for the nomination is state Attorney General Eric Schmitt, who met with GOP leaders in Washington, D.C. recently, The Hill reported. But several other Missouri Republicans are also considering a jump into the race, including Reps. Jason Smith, Ann Wagner, and Vicky Hartzler, the news outlet noted.
Greitens was a political outsider when he ran for governor and won in 2016, taking on the role with a resume that included being an author, a Rhodes scholar, and his military background as a Navy SEAL officer, KMBC reported.
Greitens resigned in June 2018 after it was revealed he'd had an extramarital affair before he was elected, a scandal that led to accusations of blackmail and a grand jury indictment — though Greitens denied any wrongdoing and the charges were eventually dropped, The Hill noted.
