Quirky SC Democrat Greene Trounced in Latest Run

MANNING, S.C. (AP) — Three months after his improbable U.S. Senate run came up short, Alvin Greene got trounced in the election for a seat in the South Carolina House.

Greene picked up just 36 votes, or about 1 percent of the ballots cast, in unofficial results from Tuesday's Democratic primary for the seat anchored by his hometown of Manning.

The 33-year-old unemployed Army veteran stunned the state's political establishment when he picked up 59 percent of the vote in a Democratic primary win last June. He later lost by a wide margin in the general election.

For his current campaign, Greene appeared to have no yard signs and the other three candidates say they haven't seen him out much shaking hands or making appearances.

Greene said he had no comment after finding out the results at his home.
