Sen. Graham: US Will End NKorea Nuclear Threat

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Thursday sent a terse warning to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un following his failed summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, saying the U.S. will end Pyongyang’s nuclear threat, “one way or the other.”

“I appreciate the effort by President @realDonaldTrump to reach a peaceful conclusion to the North Korean nuclear threat. It’s better to walk away than sign a bad deal,” Graham tweeted after Trump said he walked out on the talks after the two leaders couldn’t agree on a deal where North Korea would give up most of its nuclear weapons program.

Trump said Kim wanted U.S. sanctions “lifted in their entirety, and we couldn’t do that.” In return, the North Korean leader only offered to dismantle its main nuclear facility at Yongbyon.

“It wasn’t enough,” the president said.

Graham applauded Trump’s attempt but said there was “only one good deal: the complete denuclearization of North Korea in return for security guarantees and economic assistance.”
“I am encouraged that there are plans to continue talking,” he added. “We must not go back to the status quo. If negotiations fail, it would be time to end the nuclear threat from North Korea – one way or the other.”
