Lindsey Graham: Immigration Bill Will Pass With 70 Votes

By    |   Sunday, 16 June 2013 11:26 AM EDT

The immigration reform bill currently before the Senate will easily pass with at least 70 votes, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said Sunday.

However, if Congress as a whole fails to pass an immigration bill, Republicans can kiss any chance at the White House goodbye, Graham said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

After eight years of Obama policies, people will be looking for something different in the 2016 presidential elections, Graham said. He suggested former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as possible contenders.

But if immigration reform doesn't pass, he said, all of them can forget it.

"We're in a demographic death spiral as a party," he said, "and the only way we can get back in good graces with the Hispanic community, in my view, is pass comprehensive immigration reform. If you don't do that it really doesn't matter who we run."
