Two House Republicans are siding with Democrats in trying to force President Trump to release his taxes.

Reps. Walter Jones, R-N.C., and Mark Sanford, R-S.C., signed a letter along with more than 160 house Democrats to Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, in hopes of getting Trump to release his tax returns for the past decade.

"Disclosure would serve the public interest of clarifying President Trump's conflicts of interest in office, the potential for him to personally benefit from tax reform, and ensure that he is not receiving any preferential treatment from the IRS," they said in the letter.

Trump broke four decades of precedent by not releasing his tax returns when he became the GOP presidential candidate.

The Hill noted both Hatch and Brady have resisted calls for Trump's tax returns in the past.

"My belief is that if Congress begins to use its powers to rummage around in the tax returns of a president, what prevents Congress from doing the same to average Americans," Brady said previously.
