Republican lawmakers are not hip to the notion put forth by President Donald Trump that they should just let Obamacare implode and fail, the Washington Examiner reports.

"I don't think that letting it fail is the best option, even though it certainly allows additional pressure to happen," House Freedom Caucus chair Mark Meadows told the Examiner. "We can do better than that."

Trump has levers he can pull that would put a stake through the Affordable Care Act and threatened to do so several times over the course of these past few months as Republicans have failed to put repeal/replace legislation on his desk.

He continued to apply that pressure Monday.

But there are constituents — and voters — on the other end of such an action.

"Clear-cut question — no," Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., told the Examiner if he agreed with Trump on killing Obamacare.

Some Republicans are moving on to tax reform, while others are still committed to working up meaningful and passable healthcare legislation while the fallout from last week's last-ditch failure continues to reverberate.

"This is an epic fail for Republicans," said Tim Phillips, president of Americans For Prosperity. "Their failure to keep their promise will hurt them.
