President Donald Trump's 2016 victory has energized Democrats in their fundraising efforts, so mega-donors like casino magnate Sheldon Adelson are being sought to help the GOP keep up amid fights to keep hold of both of Congress' chambers in 2018 midterms.

"He's generous," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told Politico at the annual Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) conference at Las Vegas' Venetian hotel this weekend. "But he's smart — he doesn't throw away his money."

Adelson did not attend the RJC conference this weekend, because he was in Israel for a friend's funeral, but his potential GOP contributions for 2018 midterm campaign loom large, according to the report.

Turning to a casino billionaire is particularly noteworthy amid Steve Wynn's resignation as Republican National Committee finance chair last month. Wynn, amid allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment, was also forced to step down as Wynn CEO.

"The sidelining of Steve Wynn is a blow to Republican super PACs and candidates, and it makes donors like Sheldon Adelson even more important," GOP strategist Curt Anderson told Politico from the Venetian.

RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., Gov. Rick Scott, R-Fla., were among the GOP heavy hitters attending the RJC conference, according to the report.
