Saying that all signs point to a Donald Trump administration that will be "deeply hostile to basic precepts of transparency," Glenn Greenwald wrote that whistleblowers will be more important now than ever before.

Greenwald, co-founder of the website The Intercept, was the writer behind the Edward Snowden leaks of classified documents that exposed the global surveillance tactics of the U.S. and Britain in 2013.

"Institutional inertia by itself, let alone once exacerbated by Trump's own anti-transparency impulses, all but guarantees that the Trump presidency will be aggressively antagonistic to basic public accountability," Greenwald wrote in the Intercept.

Because of that, Greenwald is promoting the Intercept as a safe harbor for those leakers and whistleblowers who are able to shed light on a Trump government that promises to only get less transparent, he writes.

"There will undoubtedly be all sorts of actions and information in the Trump administration that will be concealed but that should be known, and the public will need courageous whistleblowers and leakers inside the government to ensure that it sees the light of day," Greenwald concluded.
