It is hands down the best political ad in this raucous campaign season and it has nothing to do with Donald J. Trump, Hillary Clinton, a rigged election or hacked emails.
Instead it is a folksy, lighthearted and self-deprecating one minute ad for Gerald Daugherty who is seeking re-election for his seat on the Travis County Commissioners Court in Texas.
"Gerald really doesn't have any hobbies," deadpans his wife Charlyn in the opening of the ad as they wash dishes together while he drones on about policy reforms.
She brilliantly narrates the video as her husband reveals a friendly family man who seemingly cannot stop chatting about taxes and fixing municipal problems to an apparently bored neighbor.
"So is he always like that?" asks the wife of the neighbor.
"All of the time," his wife says sighing deeply.
At one point Daugherty wonks out about transportation fixes with his neighbors turned dinner guests so much so that he demonstrates his proposal with perfectly cut slices of his steak.
The humorous ad has caught fire on social media, not because it is sensational or outrageous, but because of its refreshing poke at a politician attempting to hold his seat in a year when politicians aren’t very popular.
"All he wants to do is fix things," Charlyn explains.
Daugherty has held his seat since 2002 (he briefly lost it in 2008 but regained it in 2012).
The moderate Republican who lives in a very red state in a very blue county is seeking re-election this year over Democrat challenger David Holmes.
At the end Charlyn and Gerald fold laundry together as he discusses an irritating neighbor who keeps an 18-wheeler parked in the community "fuming" up the neighborhood while simultaneously reminding his wife what the neighbor was doing is not a code violation.
After insinuating that he likes helping doing chores around the house with her, Charlyn turns to the camera and pleads with the viewer to "Please re-elect Gerald. Please."
