Democrats are defecting from a 30-year-old congressional candidate who fell short of winning a special election in Georgia this week.
Jon Ossoff needed 50 percent support to win Tuesday's election in Georgia's 6th District that is replacing former Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., who is now serving as secretary of Health and Human Services.
Ossoff is coming under fire for spending more than $8 million on television ads, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
Ossoff garnered 48.1 percent of the vote, meaning he will go against Republican Karen Handel in a runoff election in June.
"A lot of people think that's kind of an outdated way to win a race like this, and that that's money that could have been very well invested in party building," MSNBC reporter Kasie Hunt said Wednesday of Ossoff's campaign ad spending.

The New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush told MSMBC on Wednesday he was receiving emails from Democrats who called Ossoff a "terrible candidate."
Based on Tuesday's results, Ossoff's hopes of winning the June runoff are strong. Democrats are aiming to take back control of at least one chamber of Congress in the 2018 midterm elections.
