Son of Billionaire George Soros Starts Jewish PAC

Alex Soros, the son of Democratic mega-donor George Soros, has helped form a political action committee as he gets more involved in political causes.

According to Politico, the 29-year-old Soros played a role in starting the Bend the Arc PAC. Politico reports it is the first Jewish PAC centered around domestic issues.

"There's an opportunity to launch something that actually speaks to what the American Jewish community cares the most about and to show the narrative of what the real American Jewish experience is," the younger Soros told Politico.

The PAC will support progressive candidates via campaign contributions, according to Politico.

"The Jewish community has a lot to say based on what we, as Jews, have contributed to the country," Alex Soros said. "It really reflects a lot about me personally. I'm really excited about it."

Soros, according to Politico, has given $1.2 million to Democrat candidates and groups during the last three election cycles.

Bend the Arc has a goal of raising $500,000 for the 2016 presidential campaign, but it's almost halfway to that mark in pledges before it even officially launches.

"We don't touch any foreign policy stuff," Bend the Arc director Hadar Susskind told Politico. "One of the reasons behind doing this is that [the other Jewish groups] aren't really representing the views of the American Jewish community. And we know full well that the bluntest language in politics comes down to political dollars."

Soros' PAC released its first list of endorsements last week, a list that does not include Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The group will not endorse anyone for president until after the primaries next year, he said.

"Hillary Clinton is good on a lot of issues and is progressive," Soros told Politico. "I'm really fond of her personally. That is not related at all to us not getting involved right now on the presidential level.

"The idea to focus on the congressional level is a lot easier. There are three branches of government. No matter who becomes president, they'll be constrained by the House and Senate."

The 84-year-old George Soros made a fortune by investing and has been involved in political activism since the early 1990s.

A January report claimed George Soros played a large role in the Ferguson, Missouri, protests last year by donating at least $33 million to support groups involved.
