Gary Johnson Files Lawsuit for Being Excluded in Debates

By    |   Monday, 24 September 2012 07:09 AM

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson is suing the Commission on Presidential Debates and both the Democratic and Republican national committees for excluding him from the upcoming presidential debates, according to the Independent Voter Network.

Johnson filed a federal anti-trust lawsuit Friday in California’s central district court against the Commission on Presidential Debates for excluding him from the three presidential debates scheduled for next month, according to IVN.

Johnson, the former New Mexico governor, is pressing to get on the debate stage. He just had his best fundraising month ever in August, collecting $356,406 in the form of modest contributions from hundreds of individuals, according to Politco.

Johnson has a base of support in the Rocky Mountain West, and could alter the outcome in swing states such as Colorado and Nevada. The last presidential candidate to share the debate stage with the Republican and Democratic nominees was Ross Perot in 1992, who received 18.9 percent of the popular vote on Election Day, according to IVN.
