Voters rate Donald Trump worse by far than any other presidential candidate in Gallup's records on having the personality and leadership qualities a president should have.

Only 32 percent said Trump has these qualities, while the previous worse rating since Gallup began asking the question about presidential candidates in 2000 was 52 percent.
Clinton's rating is also below the previous low, although just barely at 51 percent.

When voters were asked if they agree with the candidates on the issues that matter most to them, the two candidates are essentially tied, with Trump at 46 percent and Clinton at 45 percent.

These numbers showing that the vast majority think Trump lacks the qualities to be president are the most significant sign that it will be extremely difficult for the Republican candidate to win the election, despite opinion polls showing the race is tight, according to The Washington Post's Aaron Blake.

He pointed out that in previous elections even people who were preparing to vote against candidates said they had what it took to be president.

But in Trump's case, he will need to win over a very large number of voters who do not think he even has the qualities it takes for the position.

It is only because of negative perceptions of Clinton that Trump even has a chance, according to this theory. A Fox News poll from last week shows that only 30 percent of likely voters think the Democratic candidate is honest and trustworthy.

The problem for Trump is that in the same poll only 34 percent say he has those qualities, emphasizing again that this election pits two of the most disliked candidates in the history of choosing a president.
