Gallup Poll: Sen. Ted Cruz's Ratings Plummet

By    |   Friday, 11 Oct 2013 04:52 PM

Sen. Ted Cruz, a leader of the conservative movement to defund Obamacare at any cost, has seen his favorability rating plummet in the last four months, according to a Gallup poll.

But the Texas Republican has succeeded in gaining attention: 62 percent of Americans have an opinion of him now, up from 42 percent in June.

His net favorability rating — the percentage of those who view him favorably minus the percentage who view him unfavorably — is negative 10. In June, he was a positive 6 — meaning 6 percent had a more favorable view of him than unfavorable.

Now, 26 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Cruz and 36 percent an unfavorable view. In June, 24 percent had a favorable view and 18 percent an unfavorable view.

Gallup's survey of 1,028 adults was conducted Oct. 3-6.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who has joined Cruz in the defunding effort, also has suffered a slip in popularity.

A Brigham Young University poll, conducted Oct. 2-7, shows that 51 percent of Utah voters view him unfavorably, while 40 percent view him favorably. In June, the numbers were nearly the opposite, with 50 percent viewing him favorably and 41 percent unfavorably.
