Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., hailed Attorney General William Barr’s decision to lower the amount of prison time that’ll be sought for President Donald Trump's confidant Roger Stone — saying the reversal “reoriented” prosecutors’ initial recommendation.

In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Gaetz chided the “swamp” at the Department of Justice.

“I think Barr has reoriented those front-line prosecutors to the overall goals of the administration, and that's entirely appropriate because of they're all members of the executive branch,” he said.

Four prosecutors who made the original 7-9 years in prison recommendation quit after Barr’s decision to seek less time for Stone.

Gaetz predicted the subject would come up in the questioning of Barr before the House Judiciary Committee, as well as queries about the decision not to charge ex-deputy director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe.

“The Department of Justice did not issue a statement saying that they were done investigating Andrew Mccabe,” Gaetz declared. “This revelation came as a consequence of the D.C. U.S. Attorney sending a letter to McCabe's lawyer saying that on the very narrow fact pattern of McCabe's lies, leaks and lies about his leaks that that would not result in a criminal prosecution.”

“I believe he should have been prosecuted for the lying because of the double standard,” he added. “We see Mike Flynn, Roger Stone, George Papadopoulos all charged with misstatements and McCabe not charged. It sort of makes people believe that an old FBI business card may be doubling as a get-out-of-jail-free card, and that's what we want to see the attorney general… acknowledge, there is still some swamp to be drained at the Department of Justice.”
