A left-leaning cable news commentator responded to President Donald Trump's attack on him in a new opinion piece, accusing the president of distorting the facts.
Juan Williams, who appears on Fox News, wrote a story for The Hill and argued that Trump's multiple criticisms of him were predictable.
"I can ignore his bullying, even his followers' death threats," Williams wrote. "But this goes beyond Trump skewering me. He is engaged in a coordinated attack on every journalist's ability to hold him accountable, call out his lies and critique his failed policies."
On Aug. 18 after Williams criticized Trump on Fox News, Trump tapped out a tweet that called Williams "pathetic" and claimed he wanted to take a photo of the pair at the cable news network.
"Juan Williams at @FoxNews is so pathetic, and yet when he met me in the Fox Building lobby, he couldn't have been nicer as he asked me to take a picture of him and me for his family. Yet he is always nasty and wrong!" Trump wrote.
Trump followed up that tweet by bashing Williams in front of reporters on the White House lawn, saying, "Fox is a lot different than it used to be, I can tell you that. Juan Williams. Then they have the wonderful woman [Donna Brazile] that gave Hillary Clinton the questions."
Williams responded by saying Trump is trying to silence anyone who calls him out.
"What happened to me is a chilling example of how this president does not respect the First Amendment rights of any journalist," Williams wrote.
"Sorry to disappoint, Mr. President, but I will continue to point out your failures."
Williams also addressed the photo of the pair that Trump referenced. He said a building maintenance man asked Williams, who along with his Fox colleague Ed Henry was chatting with Trump at the network's New York City headquarters, asked Williams to take a photo of Trump and himself.
Trump agreed to the photo request, and after it was taken the maintenance man suggested that he would take a photo of Williams with Trump and Henry with Trump.
"I never asked for a picture with Trump and never brought my family into the conversation," Williams wrote.
