Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele blamed "karma" for previous White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus' firing in an interview with The Atlantic published Sunday.
"This is the bed Reince has been making for himself since he was my general counsel," Steele said, referring to when Priebus challenged him for the leadership in 2011 despite Steele considering him a part of his team.
"He's a guy who's always positioning himself for the next thing. Karma's a b----, ain't it?"
President Donald Trump fired Priebus as his chief of staff on Friday, replacing him with Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly.
Shortly before his firing, newly hired White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci called Priebus a "paranoid schizophrenic" and said he'd be "asked to resign very shortly."
Priebus told the Atlantic in an interview after his firing that "it's absolutely worth it," singling out the appointment of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, and repealing many of former President Barack Obama's regulations.
"The president has accomplished an incredible amount of things in the last six months," he said, though he admitted that healthcare was "an obstacle."
"We have a Republican president, a Republican Senate, and a Republican House," Priebus said. "I have no regrets at all."
