A group of women who formerly worked for Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., issued a statement saying he treated them respectfully.

Franken has come under fire after radio host Leeann Tweeden said that in 2006 he behaved inappropriately toward her at a USO event.

"Many of us spent years working for Sen. Franken in Minnesota and Washington. In our time working for the senator, he treated us with the utmost respect. He valued our work and our opinions and was a champion for women in both the legislation he supported and in promoting women to leadership roles in our offices," the women wrote in a statement, according to The Hill.

Katherine Blauvelt, Alexandra Fetissoff, Jessi Held, Natalie Violin Lehr, Karen Saxe, Charlotte Slaiman and Bethany Snider signed the statement, The Hill reported.

Tweeden told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday that she's not calling for Franken to step down.

"I think Al Franken does a lot of good things in the Senate. You know, I think that's for the people of Minnesota to decide. I'm not calling for him to step down. That was never my intention," she told the news network.
