The Federal Election Commission said that Donald Trump's presidential campaign accepted close to 1,100 donations that violated campaign finance laws, according to CNN

In some of the violations, donors had not correctly registered with the FEC, but in most, the donors had gone over legal donation limits, CNN reported.

The Campaign Legal Center's Larry Noble said the FEC letter is a routine matter: The FEC has also sent letters to Bernie Sanders and President Barack Obama.

Trump's move to raising funds online could have been partly to blame, according to CNN's report.

Roll Call reported that the president-elect could be considering changes to campaign finance regulations, which would allow donors to give more than current rules specify.

"You can expect the Republicans to be very aggressive in lifting a lot of the regulations that are currently not only on political parties but on the system generally," attorney James Bopp Jr. said in the Roll Call report.
