The two heated contests for open U.S. House seats in Upstate New York should end up in Republican hands, according to a Time Warner Cable/Siena College Poll.

That poll has former Republican Assembly leader John Faso and Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney well-positioned to hold the seats of retiring GOP Reps. Chris Gibson and Richard Hanna, respectively.

In the 19th District, Siena found Faso leading far-left Democrat and former law professor Zephyr Teachout by 48 to 42 percent districtwide.

In the closing days of the race, Faso’s campaign hit hard at Teachout’s left-of-center stands on taxes and cultural issues. As he told Newsmax, “She makes Bernie Sanders look like Sean Hannity.”

In the neighboring 22nd District, conservative Tenney tops the field with 38 percent, according to Siena. Trailing her are Democrat Kim Myers, a Broome County legislator, with 34 percent and multimillionaire and Reform Party candidate Martin Babinec, with 24 percent.

“And both of my opponents are Hillary Clinton supporters,” Tenney told me, noting without hesitation she is voting for Donald Trump.
