Howard Kurtz: 'Horribly Unfair' to Blame President Trump

By    |   Sunday, 04 August 2019 02:02 PM EDT

Democratic presidential primary candidates might be justified criticizing President Donald Trump amid their campaigns, but the media is "horribly unfair" to blame the president for the recent spate of mass shootings, according to Fox News' Howard Kurtz.

"I understand that the president's actions and the verbiage he uses about illegal immigration are going to be part of this debate, but to suggest that he's responsible, that he's encouraging, that he's condoning the actions of a crazed gunman seems to me to be horribly unfair on the media's part," Kurtz said on Sunday's "Media Buzz."

"Politicians can do it, they're running for office, but should the media tolerate this?"

Kurtz admitted he expected the response to the domestic terrorism mass murders in El Paso, Texas, and Ohio to be about gun control and blaming the president's rhetoric on race-sensitive issues and immigration.

"It is fair to challenge his rhetoric and handling of the immigration issue, but to suggest that he would be condoning the shooting of so many innocent people, it's something the media needs to really be careful about," Kurtz said.
