President Donald Trump's tweet blasting Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., is "beneath the office of the presidency" Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., said Tuesday.

After Gillibrand called for Trump to resign over allegations of sexual harassment, the president fired back in a tweet Tuesday morning.

Swalwell described Trump's tweet as "ugly and suggestive," telling CNN that "It's beneath the office of the presidency for him to conduct himself that way."

The congressman added that "we all know what he was trying to say," and noting that Trump "put 'begging' in quotes."

He also said, "I think we should understand the facts, that there is a reckoning happening in this country, different than what was occurring when the 'Access Hollywood' tape was dropped," referring to the tape on which Trump can be heard saying women will let you "do anything" if you're a "star."

"Those women came forward, and I do think those women should be heard through that process," Swalwell said.
