Former AG Holder Slams Trump on Separation Policy

By    |   Wednesday, 20 June 2018 10:21 AM EDT

Former Attorney General Eric Holder harshly criticized the Trump administration for its zero-tolerance immigration policy, which is separating undocumented parents illegally crossing the border from their children, expressing his outrage in a tweet that had a sketch of President Abraham Lincoln holding his head in his hands.

The president’s policy has been met with widespread criticism not only form Democrats but from many Republicans as well.

Trump has placed blame for the problem on the previous administration, something Holder, who served in the Obama administration, has called "nonesense," according to The Hill.

In a recent address at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, Holder said – regarding Trump’s contention that this was the fault of the Democrats – that "Among those lists of fabrications, falsehoods, 'alternative facts,' this is pretty high on the list."

Holder stressed that "This is a policy determination that this administration has made, to separate children from families, as a way to try to thwart people who are trying to come into this country either illegally or seeking asylum."

He emphasized that this "puts our government in a very, very bad light," especially when some of these children are a young as 18 months.
