Former Attorney General Eric Holder on Friday said he would have fired former FBI Director James Comey for giving his controversial July 2016 press conference on the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email practices.
"That would not have happened if I was attorney general of the United States," Holder told BuzzFeed News' AM To DM. "I would have told Jim Comey, 'you can go up there as the FBI director and try to hold this press conference, but you will leave that podium as the ex-FBI director.'”
He added that the briefing, during which Comey criticized Clinton but recommended that she not be prosecuted, was “hard to watch,” and said, "I wish I’d been there maybe an hour before the press conference had started.”
Holder, who chairs the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, said that he is “fully committed to staying with the NDRC” for the foreseeable future, but said that he will “decide” on whether to run for president “next year.”
