Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee voted down an amendment to a bill that would have targeted Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt's travel expenses, the Washington Examiner reported.

Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., introduced the amendment Wednesday during a markup of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill for the 2019 fiscal year, the Examiner reported.

Republicans called the amendment politically motivated and voted it down 26-21 on a party-line vote, the report said.

The amendment would have required the EPA to create a travel log for the agency's administrator that would have to be made known within 10 days of his travel, the report said.

Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., chairman of the committee, said it was a "politically motivated amendment" that would put restrictions on Pruitt that no other Cabinet member faces, the Examiner reported.

Ethics watchdogs, federal auditors, and congressional committees are conducting nearly a dozen probes into Pruitt's actions at the agency, including allegations of ethical concerns, CNN reported in May.
