Calling on Congress to act, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., railed against President Donald Trump's withdrawal of troops in Syria, saying it "is having sickening and predictable consequences."

"President Trump's decision to withdraw U.S. forces from northern Syria is having sickening and predictable consequences," Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, wrote in a statement. "Turkey is invading Syria in reported coordination with Russian-backed forces, ISIS terrorists are launching attacks in Raqqa, and thousands of ISIS fighters are biding their time in makeshift prisons."

President Trump has received criticism on both sides of the aisle for leaving U.S.-back Kurdish forces, which are holding thousands of ISIS terrorists prisoner, to face a fight against a Turkish incursion.

"The U.S. is abandoning our ally the Kurds, who fought ISIS on the ground and helped protect the U.S. homeland," Cheney's statement continued. "This decision aids America's adversaries, Russia, Iran, and Turkey, and paves the way for a resurgence of ISIS."

Cheney is calling on Congress to act against the president's foreign policy decision, which he explained is in keeping with a campaign promise to get the U.S. out of endless wars.

"This action imperils American security and that of our allies," Cheney concluded. "Congress must and will act to limit the catastrophic impact of this decision."

Cheney is the House Republican Conference Chair, the third-highest position in GOP House leadership.
