Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is facing questions not only about her ancestry, but also her political background.
As Tommy Christopher pointed out in an opinion piece for Mediaite, Warren was a registered Republican until 1996. But before changing her status to Democrat, Warren's political affiliation history has some holes.
Christopher noted Warren has given conflicting statements on whether or not she was an independent and who she voted for in the 1980 and 1984 presidential elections.
For example, Warren once said she voted for former President and Democrat Jimmy Carter in 1980 but has never confirmed if she voted for former President Ronald Reagan, a Republican, in 1980 or 1984.
Warren has long claimed she is Native American, and apparently used that alleged ancestry on things like her registration card for the State Bar of Texas. She released the results of a DNA test last year, however, which showed she has very little Native American heritage in her DNA.
Warren is expected to announce she is running for president this weekend, but questions surrounding her ancestry and whether she used that claim to her benefit risk sinking her campaign before it gets going.
