Elizabeth Dole Endorses Romney

By    |   Thursday, 29 December 2011 12:42 PM

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney may not be firing up the party’s conservative base, but he continues to draw the support of the GOP establishment. Former Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., endorsed the former Massachusetts governor Wednesday.

"America is facing some of the greatest challenges in our nation's history, in particular with regard to our economic future," Dole said in a statement, The Hill reports. "It is vitally important that we nominate an individual with both a steady hand for these difficult times and the experience and capabilities to get our country back on track."

Dole served in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and briefly ran for president in 2000.

Her husband, former Kansas Sen. Bob Dole, endorsed Romney on Dec. 18 in an ad in that day's Des Moines Register.
