Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., claimed "there is an air of deception" coming from the White House regarding possible ties between the President Donald Trump's campaign and Russia.

Cummings, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, made his comments in an interview on CNN's "New Day."

"Keep in mind the president told us initially that none of his people had had contact with the Russians," he said. "That's what he told us.

"And then we found everybody had contact. And so there's a lot here. If I were advising people in this case, I would tell almost anybody who had a lot to do with the transition, they might want to start looking for a lawyer," he said.

Cummings had said on Monday his committee had received documents "that appear to indicate" that former national security adviser Michael Flynn "lied to the investigators who interviewed him in 2016 as part of his security clearance," Politico reported.

Flynn had told investigators he was paid by "U.S. companies" for a 2015 trip to Moscow, the website reported. He was actually paid $45,000 by a Russian propaganda outlet for a speech.
