Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., says there’s no time to let feelings get in the way of voting in Georgia’s upcoming Senate runoffs.
Many of President Donald Trump’s supporters are calling for voters to abstain from the races following claims by the president that Georgia’s elections are riddled with fraud.
The Senate’s balance of power depends on the special runoffs in Georgia on Jan. 5 where GOP incumbent David Perdue faces Democrat Jon Ossoff and GOP incumbent Kelly Loeffler faces Democrat Raphael Warnock. Republicans have 50 seats, two more than Democrats do in the caucus. The vice president can cast a tie-breaking vote in the Senate.
Joe Biden has been announced as President-Elect by several news outlets, though not all states have certified results.
“This is no time to let feelings get in the way of what must be done right now. We must absolutely … win the Senate,” Hice said Monday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Spicer & Co.”
“If that does not happen then our country is in massive trouble under the leadership of radical, left-wing Socialists and Marxists. We cannot let that happen. We’re doing all we can to encourage people regardless of how upset you are with what happened with the presidential election – we’re going to keep fighting on that front – but we’ve got to focus on this next election, and we’ve got to win it. No other option is acceptable.”
“This is absolutely critical, as frustrated as they are, they also understand we have one more round to go through and we have to win it,” he added.
