Former Democratic National Committee chairman Ed Rendell calls former Vice President Joe Biden the Democrats’ “superstar” — and says he’d “win overwhelmingly” in a race against President Donald Trump in 2020.

In an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis aired Sunday on “The Cats Roundtable,” Rendell said he doubts age would be a factor, saying Biden is only a year-and-a-half older than Trump and “in infinitely better shape.”

"There's only one person I can say who will definitely win the election and has a superstar appeal in almost every state in the union, and that's Vice President Biden," Rendell said.

“If he decides to run I think he will win overwhelmingly,” he added.

But Rendell, who served as Pennsylvania's governor from 2003 to 2011, also warned the Democratic Party could alienate voters if they move too far left on the political spectrum.

"What I think the nation is looking for," Rendell suggested, "is not left or right necessarily, but actual real answers to the problems and challenges that face us."

He added that if he were party chairman, he’d be “on the air right now telling people how badly the Republican tax plan screws the middle class.”

“And then we should come up with own tax bill,” he said, advising “we should take the money for the estate tax, the money for the real estate developers, and give it all in tax cuts to the middle class.”

On infrastructure, Rendell said Trump “has no clue.”

“At first he said we were going to do it with the private sector,” he said. “Then he said that doesn't work. Now he wants the states to do it. Twenty-five states have already raised the gas tax in the last three years. There's not much more the states can do. So he has no answers…"
