North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum described this year's election season as one for "odd couples."
The Republican governor made the quip in response to former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, endorsing Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris.
Burgum, in comments on NBC News' "Meet the Press," said that "overnight," Democrats have embraced Cheney, who was once called "Darth Cheney."
"And now, overnight, they're embracing him. So I guess I’m just wondering if, you know, maybe he'll be on the campaign trail, campaigning with Sen. [Bernie] Sanders. I mean, this is a season for odd couples," he said.
Burgum said he didn't know if any undecided voters would be swayed by Dick Cheney's endorsement, The Hill reported.
"I think it's been pretty well understood that former Vice President Cheney is, you know, not a fan of [former] President [Donald] Trump," he said.
Burgum, who has endorsed Trump, launched his own bid for the Republican nomination last year before dropping out amid low polling numbers.
