House Republicans are seeking to talk with several people with ties to the infamous Trump dossier as the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees continue to probe how the FBI handled the early days of the Russia investigation.

According to The Hill, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., is working on subpoenas for former Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr, his wife Nellie, and Glenn Simpson, the founder of opposition research firm Fusion GPS.

Sources told The Hill that four other current and former Department of Justice and FBI officials will likely be subpoenaed as well.

Democrats hired a law firm, which then hired Fusion GPS, to dig up dirt on then-candidate Donald Trump in 2016. Fusion GPS hired former British spy Christopher Steele to see what he could find, and he produced the scandalous dossier that contained unverified claims about Trump.

Bruce Ohr was Steele's main point of contact at the DOJ when the FBI officially cut ties with him ahead of the 2016 election over media leaks. Ohr's wife worked on the dossier project at Fusion GPS — a fact Republicans have tried to exploit and show there was a complex conspiracy to take down Trump with claims of collusion between his campaign and Russia.

The dossier was used in multiple FISA applications that gave the FBI warrants to spy on certain members of the Trump campaign.
