President Donald Trump praised the House for passing two immigration-related bills in his weekly address released Friday.

Lawmakers in the House chamber passed Kate's Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act this week, which are designed to crack down on illegal immigrants with criminal records living in the United States and also sanctuary cities, which do not enforce federal immigration laws.

After saying he met with the families of Americans killed by illegal immigrants, Trump said, "Many of these illegal immigrants had extensive criminal records and had been repeatedly deported. Every single one of these deaths was preventable.

"These beautiful American lives were stolen because our government refused to do its job. If the government had simply enforced our immigration laws, these Americans would still be alive today."

Trump said he's been working since he took office at pushing for better enforcement of immigration laws and securing America's borders. Part of that work was lobbying for the two aforementioned bills, which he called "lifesaving measures."

"I now call on the Senate to take up these bills and send them back to my desk for signature as soon as possible," he said.

The two bills will have a tougher time getting through the Senate, however, with each requiring 60 votes to pass.
