Trump: Should Have Left Up Star Tweet

Donald Trump on Wednesday said he wishes his staff had not taken down a tweet seen by many as anti-Semitic, and he later sent out a tweet of a DVD of the Disney movie "Frozen" that features a six-pointed star.

Trump's troubles started on Saturday when his official account tweeted a photo of his Democratic rival for the Oval Office Hillary Clinton. A photo of Clinton was placed over stacks of money and a six-pointed star with the words "Most corrupt candidate ever" written on it.

When people began pointing out that the image appeared anti-Semitic because the six-pointed Star of David is an image associated with Jewish people and the State of Israel, Trump's staff deleted the tweet and replaced the star with a circle.

During a campaign rally Wednesday night, Trump told the crowd he told one of his campaign workers afterward, "'You shouldn’t have taken it down.' I said, 'Too bad, you should have left it up.' I would have rather defended it."

"That's just a star," Trump insisted, saying it was some in the media, CNN in particular, that were "racially profiling" by thinking a six-pointed star on top of money had a relationship to Jews.

Trump said his social media director Dan Scavino was behind the original post, and noted that Scavino's wife is Jewish. He also pointed out that his own daughter Ivanka her husband, Jared Kushner, and their children also are Jewish.

The six-pointed star is also often used as a sheriff's badge, he noted.

The image first appeared on a white supremacist message board, The Associated Press has reported.

Appearing Wednesday on CNN, Weekly Standard editor and Trump critic Bill Kristol said Trump should have admitted the mistake and moved on rather than continuing to talk about the issue.
