In a series of tweets on Saturday, Donald Trump, Jr., blasted ABC News for its "misleading bombshell" report about former national security adviser Michael Flynn's testimony to the FBI regarding his contact with Russian officials and the lagging efforts of the network to correct a key portion Friday's report.

"@ABC retracts their misleading 'bombshell' and removes their tweet approximately 12 hours after they knew it to be false. I know it's rare for you guys to get more than 200 RTs so I guess you milk it when you can?!?! #fakenews," Trump, Jr., tweeted Saturday.

Trump, Jr., also tweeted Saturday the "truth doesn't fit the (network's) narrative" and claimed "the same error about his predecessor would have been met with real consequences." He also stressed what President Donald Trump has repeatedly called "fake news" about mainstream media reports of his presidency.

On Friday, ABC News reported Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about communicating with Russian officials while Trump was a candidate, a claim the president has consistently denied. The news sent the stock market downward after ABC News reported it and posted on Twitter. It was subsequently reported by various other news agencies.

However, hours later the network issued a correction on Twitter stating the president had reportedly "directed (Flynn) to make contact with the Russians" on various topics after Trump was elected president "during the transition" into office.

Journalists, conservatives and Twitter users blasted ABC News over the error.
