There is "no indication" that President Donald Trump will take action to intervene in Republican primaries for seats in the House of Representatives, according to a National Republican Campaign Committee official.

The idea is "hypothetical . . . there is no indication that is happening," said Joe Pileggi, the NRCC's political director, during a policy summit Thursday hosted by Politico.

Pileggi also said he did not expect that Trump's low approval ratings would affect Republican candidates in their races.

"We saw this last fall and will continue to see it: Voters are pretty good at separating the president of the United States from our members," he said, according to Politico.

Trump has criticized senators from his own party, such as Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., whom he called "weak" and "toxic."

The president also has urged voters to vote against Republican opponents such as Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.
