While cable TV networks were going wall-to-wall coverage of his decision to release a GOP memo alleging FBI surveillance abuses, President Donald Trump sent out an uncharacteristic change-the-subject tweet citing his accomplishments.

Trump tweeted:

With 3.5 million Americans receiving bonuses or other benefits from their employers as a result of TAX CUTS, 2018 is off to great start!
✅Unemployment rate at 4.1%.
✅Average earnings up 2.9% in the last year.
✅200,000 new American jobs.

One minute later, the president retweeted an opinion piece from The Washington Times praising his State of the Union speech on Tuesday.

The opinion piece, written by Charles Hurt, said, in part:

"President Trump has officially transformed himself from merely a great American president into a historic world leader keeping lit the torch of freedom for all people around the world.

"In two speeches this week, Mr. Trump proved himself the greatest champion of freedom since Ronald Reagan. He has become the strongest voice today for that shining city upon a hill.

"Mr. Trump joins Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Pope John Paul II and Martin Luther King Jr. in the pantheon of great champions of freedom from the past half-century."

Democrats were not so eager to change the subject.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi from California tweeted:
