Billionaires, determined to see Donald Trump fail in securing the Republican presidential nomination, are pumping money into "ground operations" across the country to steal his delegates, Politico reports.

At the helm of the operation is the Our Principles PAC which is attempting to influence Trump's delegates to jump ship if the nomination process eventually plays out at a contested convention this summer.

Trump, who is the Republican presidential front-runner, is disgusted at the effort, which he believes is the GOP establishment using underhanded efforts to destroy his lead in delegates over Ted Cruz.

An example of the big-bucks, anti-Trump effort is the $4.1 million that Our Principles has paid a Washington political consulting shop, DDC Advocacy, for direct mail, phone banking, and other methods to get its word out, Politico says.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reports that more than half of all negative ads this presidential primary season have been against Trump.

A total of $132 million has been spend on negative ads and almost $70 million of that was spent on attack ads against Trump, the Times reported, citing data from Kantar Media/CMAG.
